Code hosting and collaboration platforms like GitHub (#1 market share) and GitLab (#2 market share) are major drivers in this shift toward mainstream open source development. In 2020 alone, over 56 million developers worked on over 140 million project repositories listed on Github, making over 1.9 billion contributions.
