Web3 authentication utilizes blockchain wallets and public key cryptography to authenticate user identities directly without the need for centralized providers or personal information. It also contains a record of all past on-chain activities, which together form a user's on-chain identity. This on-chain identity can be used as credentials to access various features and opportunities. Web3 credential protocols, such as Galxe, Rabbithole, and Layer3, often provide these services and offer NFT badges as rewards for using decentralized applications (dapps).

There are also other emerging Web3 credential protocols that offer unique approaches to creating verifiable identities on the blockchain. In this piece, we introduce two lesser-known protocols: (1) DeQuest, which allows users to earn credentials through completing game-related tasks, and (2) Phi, which gamifies the process of creating a verifiable identity on the blockchain.
