MapleStory is a popular Web2 game, which was first released in South Korea in April 2003. Since its inception, MapleStory has expanded to various Asian countries, such as China and Japan, as well as the North American and European regions. The game saw significant success in its early years, amassing over 8 million users in 2011 and grossing over $1.18 billion in revenue from 2013 to 2017. 

MapleStory continues to grow till today, with over 250 million users globally, expanding into the mobile gaming markets with two additional games, MapleStoryM, which was released globally on May 28, 2018, and MapleStory R: Evolution, which was released on July 23, 2023, to Southeast Asian countries only.
