Soulbound Tokens and the Social Construction of Identity in Web3

There have been a lot of talks lately about soulbound tokens (SBTs). SBTs are issued tokens that store identity-relevant data such as education credentials, employment history, club memberships, and so forth. Together, they make up a “Soul.”

SBTs carry weight corresponding to the reputation of their issuers. The more reputable SBTs a Soul amasses, the more the individual starts to emerge. One could liken it to taking the concept of socially constructed identity and weaving it right into the blockchain fabric of web3.
