The Environmental Debate of Crypto: Part 2

This is the second half of a two-part research piece on the environmental debate around cryptocurrencies. In the first part, we covered the existing situation, with a specific focus on Bitcoin’s environmental impact and the common misconceptions. 

To recap, it is indisputable that Bitcoin has a negative impact on the environment with the current level of technology. While the magnitude of the impact is highly debated, the net impact is still negative. Without a significant improvement in technology and a change in the system to incentivize sustainable mining, this situation is unlikely to change. To ensure the continued adoption of Bitcoin, it is necessary to address the root of the problems.
