Tor: Private Internet Access

Browsing the internet is not private. Internet users’ internet service providers (ISPs) can track which websites they visit and sell that information to third parties; they may also be coerced into reporting it to the government or a legal plaintiff. A user’s ISP, and by extension, their government, can limit their ability to access certain websites, and their online history can be used against them, either within the legal system or extrajudicially.

This lack of privacy and censorship-resistance is bad for internet users, and its effects are especially pronounced in countries where the government routinely censors online information or persecutes activists. Tor looks to address this by creating a more private way to access the internet.
