Due to lower overall interest in cryptos and the availability of lower-fee environments for DeFi, transaction fees on the Ethereum chain have gone down recently. The median ETH transfer is down to $0.54, down from a peak of $26.7 on the highest day in May. 

This large difference shows how blockchains are the epitome of surge pricing. If blocks aren’t full, transactions are practically free and when they are full fees can rise rapidly. If we take DEX activity as a proxy for DeFi demand, overall trade volume is down about 70%, when Ethereum transaction fees are down by 50x.
