What is the Telegram game Memefi and how do you play it?

Memefi is a Telegram-based “tap-to-earn” game — one of many since the success of Notcoin — which has its own particular spin on the gamification of tapping and earning rewards.

In Memefi, the object of the game is to tap to defeat opponents, thereby earning rewards and bonuses. Whereas other tap-to-earn games often have a coin on the main screen, with Memefi, players are confronted with an enemy.  Each tap will reduce the enemy's health and earn a token of equivalent value for each point of health taken from them.

How can players get started with Memefi?

Players can click the link to Memefi’s Telegram bot to begin playing the game. Clicking the link will bring prospective players to Telegram, where they can find instructions for playing the game, a link to Memefi’s Telegram community and a button to start playing.

As soon as the game opens, players are thrust into action, facing off against their first enemy, Pependalf. This frog in a wizard suit, an apparent nod to the popular meme frog Pepe, is the first challenge players must overcome in their Memefi journey. Players can also click Pependalf’s name to view its backstory and the bonus they will receive for defeating it.

Once players defeat Pepe by tapping the required number of times, players earn a bonus and move on to the next enemy.

How can players boost their rewards?

Similar to other tap-to-earn games, there are numerous ways for players to boost their rewards and earn bonuses. At the bottom of the main screen is the “Earn” button. Players can click to open the Earn menu to find various tasks and bounties to earn bonuses, such as following Memefi’s TikTok and YouTube pages.

Like other Telegram-based games, players can invite their friends to join the game and receive 2,500 tokens per friend. Additionally, if a friend defeats an enemy, the player who invited them will also receive a further bonus, which increases per level.

Finally, there are boosters and upgrades players can purchase with their in-game currency to increase their mining rate. Free daily bonuses are available and can temporarily 10x the damage done per tap or refuel the player’s energy levels. A “tap bot” can also be unlocked and purchased to automatically tap enemies and earn player rewards while they are inactive.

How is Memefi different to other tap-to-earn games?

The main way Memefi differentiates itself from other tap-to-earn games is its concept of gamification. While Hamster Kombat sees players act as a CEO and Dotcoin follows a more simple concept of tapping to earn rewards, Memefi places the game in a combat setting and gives users enemies to defeat.

Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that the team behind Memefi has also developed another Web2 game, Memefi Club. In this game, players build characters, join clans, and conduct raids on one another to reap rewards. Like the Telegram-based game, it exists in a world full of popular memes that seeks to blend “pop culture with fantasy.” Different to most tap-to-earn games, however, is that this game is built on Linea, an Ethereum layer 2 solution, while other Telegram-based games tend to be associated with the TON blockchain.

According to Memefi's documentation, it is unclear to what extent the two games are connected, if at all, but the team confirms that the accumulated in-game rewards from the tap-to-earn game will be “exchangeable for something really cool later.”

Since its launch on May 17, Memefi claims to have over 20 million active users, though similar to other Telegram-based games, the precise number of users vs bots is difficult to determine.
