WisdomTree leads $17.6 million funding round for security token startup

Securrency, a provider of compliance tech for digital assets, has raised $17.65 million in a Series A funding round led by WisdomTree, the $44.5 billion exchange-traded fund (ETF) and exchange-traded product (ETP) asset manager. 

Founded in 2015, Securrency offers compliance tools for banks and financial service providers to automate the enforcement of regulatory policies. The firm hopes its partnership with WisdomTree will help it further improve its technology, especially its Compliance Aware Token framework and multi-ledger capacities, Securrency CEO Dan Doney said in a press release

Besides WisdomTree, participants in the round include the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Japanese financial services provider Monex Group, and venture capital firms RRE Ventures, Strawberry Creek Ventures, and Pantera Capital Investments.

WisdomTree first entered into the cryptocurrency space in Dec. 2019 when it launched a physically-settled bitcoin ETP on Switzerland’s primary stock exchange, SIX.

The decision came after the company observed a surge in trading volumes for cryptocurrency ETPs listed on SIX.
