Ethereum Layer 2 Mantle has upgraded to version 2 after its Tectonic upgrade on March 15.
The modular network upgraded to the OP Stack Bedrock to align more closely with other Optimism chains. This alignment should help reduce interoperability barriers.
"Mantle v2 Tectonic has eliminated redundant components such as the Data Transport Layer and Threshold Signature Scheme, which were present in Mantle v1. These removals were made possible by the existence of similar functionalities in the new OP Stack architecture," Mantle said, ahead of the upgrade.
Mantle v2 has added support for the EIP-1559 upgrade, which occurred on Ethereum in August 2021. This addition makes the transaction fee process more efficient and aligned with the rest of the ecosystem.
The upgrade has also helped stabilize block times, ensuring a more consistent block production process. This consistency arises because blocks can now contain multiple transactions, as opposed to only one transaction per block.
Mantle’ mainnet alpha v1 (Mantle v1) started development in late 2022, using the Optimism Virtual Machine (OVM) codebase, before the OP Stack was introduced.
With the OP Stack’s launch, Mantle decided to upgrade its network to a version based on the OP Stack Bedrock. This upgrade effectively integrates into the OP Stack ecosystem and simplify composability and interoperability.
