Crypto exchange Bitget inks eight-figure deal with LaLiga
Quick Take
- LaLiga has chosen Bitget as its official cryptocurrency partner in selected regions, including Eastern and Southeast Asia and Latin America.
Spain’s leading football league, LaLiga, named Bitget as its official cryptocurrency partner in select regions, the cryptocurrency exchange announced Thursday at Singapore’s Token2049 event.
Bitget Chief Operating Officer Vugar Usi Zade told The Block that the partnership is worth "eight figures," or over $10 million, and will last two to three years. Zade added that the exchange will continue to make more effort to reach a larger audience, including through long-term partnerships.
Bitget is LaLiga’s crypto partner in Eastern, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, according to a press release. The multi-million dollar partnership is said to explore the intersection of crypto and sports and aim for a broader adoption of Web3 technologies in emerging markets.
“Over the last decade, digitalization and innovation have been among LaLiga's priorities. Last season, we made this a priority under the umbrella of our New Era, which put the emphasis on technology: we want to be pioneers and we are committed to it,” said Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga.
The Spanish football league has previously collaborated with Dapper Labs to launch its series of digital collectibles NFTs.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said the partnership will go beyond marketing and visibility and plans deeper collaborations, including more investments in education. Many major crypto exchanges have partnered with sports leagues, a recent example being OKX’s partnership with Formula 1 team McLaren and UEFA Champions League winners Manchester City.
Some of the world’s most notable football clubs, including Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona, participated in LaLiga’s 2024-25 season, with star players such as Mbappé, Vinícius Jr., and Lewandowski on the field. The league said it has more than 220 million followers globally.
