Our perp DEX scores focus on how each platform performs where it matters most: execution quality, liquidity, trading costs and real-world usability. We’re interested in the typical trading experience for users, rather than marketing hype or gimmicks.
Liquidity and execution: We measure how deep and reliable each DEX’s markets are, especially during volatile moves. Orderbook speed, oracle accuracy, spreads and slippage all factor into scoring. Platforms that consistently deliver fast, fair fills score higher than those with thin books or wide spreads.
Trading costs and funding: Headline fees don’t tell the full story. We evaluate maker/taker fees, funding rates, borrow fees, price impact and any hidden costs built into the model. DEXs with predictable, transparent costs rate better.
Supported markets and leverage: We consider both the breadth of tradable assets and how responsibly leverage is offered. Exchanges with many liquid markets and stable risk controls score higher than those that list hundreds of pairs but with poor depth or extreme, impractical leverage.
Security, settlement, and transparency: All DEXs run on smart contracts, but not all are equally transparent. We review chain choice, oracle design, margin systems, audit history and how liquidations are handled. Fully on-chain settlement or provable matching earns higher trust scores than opaque off-chain components.
Accessibility and usability: Onboarding flow, geoblocking and general UX contribute to the usability rating. DEXs that are fast to access and easy to trade on, without constant wallet signing or regional restrictions, perform better.
The final score reflects the real trading conditions across each exchange. Our goal is to highlight the DEXs that deliver the best mix of liquidity, transparency, and performance for everyday perpetual futures traders.
A perpetual DEX is a decentralized exchange that lets you trade futures contracts with no expiry date. Prices are kept aligned with spot markets through funding payments. Positions are managed on-chain through smart contracts rather than a centralized intermediary (although several exchanges do rely on some level of offchain processing).
Generally no. Most perp DEXs do not require KYC and allow trading directly from a crypto wallet. However, some platforms enforce geoblocking for restricted regions, and a few frontends may require email-based accounts for convenience or regulatory compliance.
Perp DEXs remove custodial risk — your funds stay in your wallet or in audited smart contracts — but they introduce smart contract, oracle and liquidation risks. We weigh audit history, chain reliability and transparency of the margin system when scoring. Regardless, be sure to do your own research before trading on any platform.
They run across a mix of Layer 1 and Layer 2 chains, including Arbitrum, Solana, Starknet, custom appchains and Ethereum L2s. Chain choice affects speed, gas costs and settlement reliability. Even though exchanges may run on one chain’s infrastructure, they often offer deposit options across a wide range of chains. Our list includes options covering all of the major ecosystems.
It varies widely by platform. Some DEXs offer conservative 20–50× leverage, while others advertise up to 100x, 200x or even 1000x on select markets. Higher leverage increases liquidation risk, so real trading conditions matter more than plain numbers.
Key factors include liquidity depth, execution speed, the reliability of oracles, funding and fee structure, ease of onboarding, supported markets and whether the platform works well on your device or region. Points programs and incentives can help, but shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
Not always. Many DEXs now offer low-fee or even zero-fee trading, but real costs depend on spreads, execution quality, funding rates and chain fees. Some orderbook-based DEXs match or beat CEX trading costs; others have thin liquidity that affects fills.
