2019 saw stagnant growth for blockchain-related references in scholarly journals

The birth of bitcoin and successive crypto-economic systems and protocols led to a rise in academic and scholarly research focused on the the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Some of these research pieces saw wide media coverage, including the now-infamous Bitfinex research in which two U.S. academics claimed a single market player manipulated bitcoin’s historic price in 2017.
