It’s Blockchain Week in NYC and at the heart of it all is Consensus, an event organized by CoinDesk.

Last year, the conference gave a platform to all things wrong with the crypto ecosystem (think of endless panels shilling ICOs, nonsensical blockchain applications and glorified Ponzi schemes). So much so that this year, new competitors have entered the fray to try to eat CoinDesk’s lunch and to offer more nuanced discussions of substance. Most notably, Magical Crypto Conference marketed itself as “Anti-Consensus”, charging about one-tenth of the price for a ticket than its eponym, and focusing mainly on technical topics within crypto. And it looks like CoinDesk's numbers - and revenues - may have suffered as a result (as well as worsened market conditions).
