Coinbase prediction markets go live in all 50 US states via Kalshi
Quick Take
- Coinbase has now made its prediction markets offering available across the U.S. through Kalshi, expanding access after an earlier, limited launch.
- The full rollout comes as prediction markets are seeing record levels of activity and revenue, highlighting growing interest in event-based trading.
Coinbase has expanded its prediction markets offering to users across all 50 U.S. states through its partnership with Kalshi, moving beyond an earlier, limited rollout.
The nationwide availability follows Coinbase’s initial announcement last month, when the exchange said it had begun rolling out access to prediction markets, allowing users to trade on the outcomes of real-world events such as politics, sports, entertainment, culture, and economic indicators. At the time, Coinbase said all market flow would come from Kalshi at launch — a Commodity Futures Trading Commission–regulated prediction market platform — with plans to support contracts from additional prediction market platforms in the coming months.
Prediction markets allow users to trade event contracts whose prices reflect the collective probability assigned by market participants to a given outcome. Coinbase has said users can manage these positions alongside their existing crypto, equities, and cash balances within the same interface, with minimum trade sizes starting at $1 in USD or USDC.
The full U.S. rollout comes as prediction markets are seeing a surge in interest and activity. Combined volumes on two dominant platforms, Polymarket and Kalshi, surpassed tens of billions of dollars last year and are on track to hit record highs again this month, according to The Block’s Data Dashboard. Traditional trading and fintech firms — including CME Group through its partnership with FanDuel, as well as Robinhood and Webull — have also recently added prediction markets as a new product category. Goldman Sachs is also exploring the space.
For Coinbase, prediction markets are part of a broader push to expand beyond crypto trading into an “everything exchange” offering that includes stocks, derivatives, stablecoins, payments, tokenized assets, and onchain products, with the aim of keeping users within its platform.
Last month, Coinbase announced the acquisition of The Clearing Company, founded by Toni Gemayel — a former head of growth at both Polymarket and Kalshi — as part of its effort to scale its prediction markets offering.
