What Is Crypto Arbitrage?

There are several sophisticated methods used to execute this strategy: - Spatial Arbitrage: The most common form, involving buying and selling the same asset on two different exchanges. Cross-border spatial arbitrage specifically targets regional price gaps, such as the famous "Kimchi Premium" in South Korea.

- Triangular Arbitrage: This occurs within a single exchange. A trader exchanges one cryptocurrency for a second, the second for a third, and the third back into the first to exploit price imbalances between trading pairs (e.g., BTC/ETH to ETH/USDC to USDC/BTC).

These bots use flash loans to access large amounts of capital without collateral, executing trades in milliseconds to capture margins that are often too thin for manual traders.

Risks and Limitations

Despite being framed as "risk-free," crypto arbitrage carries significant operational dangers. Price slippage can occur if the market moves during execution, and network congestion can delay transactions, causing the profitable gap to close before the trade completes. Furthermore, exchange withdrawal fees, transfer costs, and the risk of platform insolvency must be factored into any strategy to ensure it remains profitable.
