South Korea's Hanwha develops tokenized securities platform on Avalanche as local regulation takes shape: report

Quick Take
- A major South Korean financial institution has finished building a securities tokenization platform on Avalanche, according to a local news report.
- South Korea has passed amendments that officially integrate tokenized securities into the existing financial system, with the changes taking effect next February.
Hanwha Investment & Securities, a major brokerage in South Korea, has reportedly developed a tokenized securities platform on Avalanche (AVAX).
According to a Sunday report from Seoul Economic Daily, Hanwha started building the platform in 2025 with blockchain technology firm FairSquare Lab. The platform was designed to operate on multiple networks, including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu.
Hanwha's reported move lands months before South Korea's amendments take effect on Feb. 4, 2027, legally recognizing distributed ledgers as securities registers and folding security tokens into the existing capital markets system.
Meanwhile, the Financial Services Commission, South Korea's top financial regulator, announced a three-stage implementation roadmap for the incoming securities token amendments.
With the laws going into effect in February, the FSC will allow the tokenization of privately placed money market funds, bonds, unlisted stocks via a trust wrapper, as well as fractional investment securities.
If proven successful, the regulator seeks to open tokenization to all publicly offered securities and ultimately build onchain payment rails that allow investors to settle tokenized securities with stablecoins.
Hanwha has been expanding its footprint in blockchain and tokenization. The Hanwha Group built a 9.6% stake in Securitize (SECZ) over several years across three affiliates, becoming its largest shareholder. Separately in July, the group's investment and securities firm unveiled a 30 billion Korean won ($22.3 million) investment in Canton Network operator Digital Asset.
