MetaMask, the decentralized application browser for interacting with the Ethereum blockchain, announced a suite of new tools and features at Devcon 4 in Prague. They are as follows:

  • The implementation of EIP 1102, which will require websites to request a user's public Ethereum address before accessing it. Prior to this implementation, any website can access a user's public address and their transaction history. This implementation will enable a user to accept or reject a website's access request.
  • A mobile app for accessing Ethereum dApps. Previously, MetaMask was only available on desktop browsers.
  • A new browser called Mustekala which will reduce MetaMask's dependence on centralized services like Infura.
  • Support for other Ethereum compatible blockchains like Ethereum Classic.
