With the recent announcement of Dymension’s airdrop, there has been growing chatter regarding the protocol’s potential as a scaling solution for the Cosmos ecosystem. Dymension features application-specific rollups, termed RollApps, that would enable developers to deploy customized execution environments while leveraging different data availability (DA) solutions. Put simply, Dymension is a settlement layer for RollApps and can scale with external DA layers. This should significantly increase the block space available for transactions, though such an approach necessarily trades off a certain extent of security.

Dymension was previously covered in a research piece that touched on its architecture. RollApps, the front end of Dymension, are the access points for users, are by default EVM-compatible and will thus provide users with a similar experience as they would with any EVM-compatible chain. While this is meant to overcome the barrier of bridging users from Ethereum to the Cosmos ecosystem, given that Dymension itself is built on Cosmos, users bridging funds to Dymension will inevitably have to interact with the Cosmos ecosystem. As such, the main value proposition that Dymension offers is standardization across RollApps that settle on it, as well as scalability.
