Neon is a Solana-based EVM-compatible virtual machine, with the aim to extend Solana’s lower transaction costs and shorter finality times to Ethereum-based applications. Before Neon, it was technically challenging to deploy Ethereum applications on Solana because smart contracts on Ethereum are written in Solidity or Vyper, and cannot be easily transpiled to Rust, the language of Solana’s smart contracts.

By transpiling Solidity and Vyper smart contracts to Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF) bytecode, Neon EVM enables EVM-compatible dapps to deploy on Solana seamlessly. In addition, Neon EVM is designed to capitalize on Solana’s parallel transaction processing, which Ethereum lacks, thereby granting its EVM execution environment the fast transaction speeds and low costs that Solana offers.
