Nillion is a novel network that aims to provide decentralized secure computation, a feature that can potentially expand the data capabilities of many existing blockchains today. Nillion will serve as a chain-agnostic layer that can handle multiparty computations (MPCs), with its core technology, Nil Message Compute (NMC), a mathematical innovation that substantially improves the speed of traditional MPC for certain functionalities. This would allow the blockchains of today to offload on-chain computation and can also confer privacy to data.

Nillion does not consider itself a Layer 1 (L1), given that it does not handle transaction ordering and was not designed to run a public ledger. Instead, Nillion focuses mainly on secure data computation with its NMC technology, thereby giving it a breakthrough for decentralized computing that typical L1s would not otherwise be able to achieve. By nature, Nillion will feature privacy and interoperability solutions for applications that choose to utilize the Nillion network for their storage and computation.
